The people behind it

Event 66 is me, Jochem, and a large team of volunteers who keep turning up.
I came to Saba in 2019 and started putting on sports events here not long after. I had been doing the same in the Netherlands for a previous employer, after studying Sports Management and Entrepreneurship at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam. Organizing events is still work, and I have no illusions about that. It is also the work I would pick every time.
What I am building is a sports calendar that runs all year on Saba. Something to train for in every season, rather than one race a year and a long wait after it. Running, hiking, cycling, and the odd uphill swim.
None of it happens alone. Every event runs on a dedicated team of volunteers who mark courses in the dark, hand out water halfway up a hill, and time the last finisher as carefully as the first. If you have been to one of our events, you have already met them.
Event 66 grew out of Food 66, a company name my father chose to combine food with Route 66. He never got the chance to build it, so I kept part of the name and put it to something I love doing: organising events. Route 66 makes me think big: a road that runs further than you can see. That's the idea here too.
Whenever you reach out, you will always get a personal response, never just a ticket number.
Tell people what it was actually like. A review takes a minute and it is the main way anyone new on Saba finds us.
Genuinely: several things on the calendar started as someone's suggestion. Send it over and we'll see if it can happen.
Quicker than writing an email, and it reaches the same person.
Asking about a workshop or a team building day? Put your organisation, what kind of session, roughly how many people and when you are thinking of in the message, and we can usually answer it in one reply.
